Pillar 3
We need to invest in, grow, and elevate community specific and community based approaches to address interpersonal violence that prioritize safety, healing, and accountability
Why
These approaches already exist and represent a constellation of options and possibilities for preventing, intervening and responding to interpersonal violence
Many communities are already engaged in variations of these practices, yet for some they are done quietly, particularly when they operate outside of the criminal legal system
A robust constellation of justice beyond punishment is both possible and necessary
These approaches include but are not limited to:
Non-punitive practices and paradigms like healing justice, transformative justice, and restorative justice
Violence interrupters and credible messenger efforts
Non-carceral crisis response programs like CAHOOTS
Approaches to safety and justice that focus on the self-determination of communities
Supports that make communities safe like housing, healthcare, education, and employment
